Project

Nestled within the ‘Old Chelsea’ area of London, this delightful split-level apartment is situated in an area once famed for its porcelain and raw silk factories.

The property commands panoramic views over the River Thames, the Chelsea Physic Garden and the Royal Hospital grounds.

Brief & Result

The initial project brief was to modernise and soften the principal living space, bedrooms and bathrooms by incorporating the client’s personality and style.

Light-Filled Kitchen with Expansive Views

The client wanted to enhance the living/kitchen space to maximise the light and views afforded by the apartment’s large sash windows.

To achieve this, we removed the partitions between the kitchen and living room and replaced the breakfast bar with a free-standing timber island to improve the flow. Our bespoke, handmade kitchen with dark green cabinetry was designed to add drama whilst connecting to the outside views bringing a sense of the surrounding gardens into the space. We deliberately paired-back the design and removed the existing wall cabinetry, opting for a monolithic worktop and splashback.

Calm & Feminine Marbled Bathrooms

It was important that we gave the bathrooms their own identities whilst also ensuring they would sit harmoniously alongside the client’s eclectic mix of furniture and wonderful contemporary art collection.  This was achieved by the varied colour palette and use of natural materials in each space, such as timber and marble, turning the formerly utilitarian spaces into a calming oasis nestled within the centre of Chelsea.

The use of soft pinks and pale marble in the principal bedroom’s ensuite created the light and feminine feel that our client desired. Replacing the existing blinds with neutral sheers helped to soften and modernise the room, creating a connection with the bedroom beyond.

We introduced a richer colour for the second bathroom and installed a striking herringbone marble. The use of different shades of green added depth to the room whilst creating an air of tranquillity.

Playful & Joyous Monkey Cloakroom

By using this delightful hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper, we transformed the guest cloakroom from a plain white box into a playful and joyous space. The full-height mirror, stretching from wall to wall, allowed us to showcase this incredibly intricate wallpaper and create a truly immersive space.
